'Hollywood smile' is a marketing name rather than a clinical one. In practice it means a full smile makeover: usually a set of veneers or crowns across the teeth that show when you smile, planned together for shade, shape and proportion. What varies enormously between clinics is how many teeth get treated and how much of each tooth is removed.
What hollywood smile treatment involves
A responsible smile design starts with photographs, a bite assessment and a mock-up you can see and approve before anything is drilled. It may conclude that whitening and two veneers get you most of the way, and that treating sixteen teeth is not in your interest. Be wary of any quote that treats a fixed number of units as the starting point. Where teeth are healthy, veneers should be the default and crowns the exception; where teeth are already heavily filled or root-treated, crowns may genuinely be right. Ask to see the plan tooth by tooth, and ask what happens to any tooth that turns out to need root canal treatment once it is prepared.

When it is the wrong treatment
- Your teeth are healthy, well-aligned and only a shade darker than you would like — whitening does that without removing anything
- The real problem is alignment; a smile designed around crooked teeth means removing more of each one to fake a straight line
- You want twenty units because a package advertised twenty. The number should come from your smile line, and for most people that is eight to ten per arch
- You are not certain. This is permanent, and there is no version of it that gives you your enamel back

What a "full set" actually means
Packages advertised as a Hollywood smile differ in the two ways that matter most: how many teeth are treated, and whether those teeth are veneered or crowned. Both should be settled in writing before a deposit.
Eight to ten veneers on the upper arch
The most common genuine smile makeover: the teeth that show when you smile, faced in porcelain.

- Most people, most of the time — it is the count your smile line usually produces.
- Trade-off
- Your lower teeth stay as they are, so the shade you choose has to work with them or they get treated too.
Sixteen to twenty units, both arches
The number quoted in most advertised packages, covering upper and lower.
- Best for
- Wide smiles that genuinely show lower teeth, and cases where the lower teeth need treatment on their own merits.
- Trade-off
- Twice the tooth structure removed, and it is very often more than the smile line calls for. Ask to be shown, in your own photographs, which teeth actually show.
E-max veneers
Pressed ceramic, translucent, the usual choice where the teeth being treated are sound.
- Best for
- Healthy teeth needing colour and shape changes, particularly at the front.
- Trade-off
- Needs a genuine preparation, and is less forgiving of a heavy grinder than zirconia.
Zirconia crowns
Full-coverage crowns, strong and opaque. Legitimate treatment, frequently sold as "veneers".
- Best for
- Teeth already heavily filled, root-treated or broken down, where a veneer would have nothing to hold on to.
- Trade-off
- Every side of the tooth is reduced. On healthy teeth this is a much bigger permanent cost than a veneer, and it should never happen by accident.

What we cannot tell you about them. Recovery, and how long hollywood smile last
No surgery, but a full arch is a bigger adjustment than a couple of veneers — you are learning a new bite and a new tooth shape at the same time.
- In temporaries
- They feel bulkier than the finished work and are more fragile. Soft food, careful flossing, and speak up about anything that feels wrong — the temporaries are the last easy chance to change the design.
- First week after bonding
- Sensitivity to cold and pressure, and a few days of speech feeling different while your tongue adjusts to new edges. Both settle.
- First few months
- Your bite is being tested by real chewing. A high spot on one tooth is easy to adjust and worth going back for — leaving it is how porcelain chips.
- Call someone if…
- Sensitivity increases rather than settles, one tooth feels persistently high, or a gum margin stays sore and inflamed after the first fortnight.
How long it lasts
A smile makeover is a commitment to maintenance rather than a purchase. Porcelain resists staining well, but the margins where it meets your teeth still need cleaning, the gums still need to stay healthy, and a night guard is the difference between a set that survives a decade and one that chips in the second year. The part people underestimate is that this is not reversible: once teeth are prepared, the choice at replacement time is new porcelain, not your own enamel. That is worth sitting with before you agree to a unit count, and it is why we would rather do ten teeth well than twenty by default.
What can go wrong with hollywood smile, and what reduces it
Every item here can happen in a UK practice too. What travelling changes is how easily it gets sorted out — which is the reason this site puts a UK examination in front of a flight.
Being over-treated
Ask to be shown which teeth are visible in your own smile photographs, and why each additional unit is in the plan. A count that arrives before an examination is a package.
Crowns fitted where veneers were quoted
A written, tooth-by-tooth plan naming veneer or crown for each one, agreed before a deposit.
A shade that ages badly
Choose it in daylight, against your face and the whites of your eyes, and be suspicious of the brightest shade on the guide. It is the choice people most often say they would make differently.
A tooth needing root canal treatment after preparation
More likely across a full arch simply because more teeth are involved. Ask in advance what happens to the plan and to the price when it is found.
Chipping under a heavy bite
A properly adjusted bite and a night guard if you grind. On a full arch these are part of the treatment, not accessories.
“Will a UK dentist touch it when I get home?”
It is the most asked question about dental treatment abroad, and the answer is more practical than most of the arguing suggests. UK dentists are not refusing work on principle. They are refusing to guarantee treatment they did not carry out and cannot identify — and on that, they are right. A dentist asked to adjust a crown needs to know what it is made of; asked to service an implant, they need the system and the part numbers.
So the thing that decides how this goes for you is paperwork, and it is settled before you fly rather than after. You leave with the materials named, the components identified, your radiographs and a written guarantee that says what is covered and for how long. A full-arch cosmetic case is the one UK dentists most often meet without documentation, and it makes ordinary work harder than it should be. Go home with the number of units, the material, the shade and which teeth are veneers and which are crowns — then register with a practice and get a hygienist appointment in the diary.

When hollywood smile are not the answer
We would rather lose the enquiry than sell you the wrong treatment. Any of these can be the better call, and the UK examination is where that gets decided.
Whitening and two or four veneers
Far more often than the market suggests. If the shade is most of the complaint, treating the two teeth that genuinely bother you is a fraction of the cost and keeps the rest of your enamel.
Composite bonding across the smile
When you want a reversible change, or want to live with a shape before committing to porcelain. Cheaper, repairable, and it removes little or nothing.
Aligners first, then fewer veneers
When alignment is the real problem. Straightening your own teeth means less porcelain and less tooth removed to reach the same result.
Individual crowns where they are needed
When only a few teeth are genuinely broken down and the rest are sound.

Common questions
Will a UK dentist work on a Hollywood smile done in Turkey?
Routine care, yes — and the sooner you register with a UK practice the better, because a full arch of porcelain needs hygienist maintenance around the margins whatever country it came from. The friction is over guarantees and remakes rather than over check-ups: a UK dentist will not warrant work they did not do. Take the paperwork — units, material, shade, veneer or crown per tooth — to the first appointment and the conversation is a normal one.
How much does a full set of veneers cost in Turkey?
The honest answer is that "full set" is not a fixed quantity, so an advertised package price and your actual case can be quite different things. It depends on how many teeth show when you smile, whether they are veneered or crowned, and which ceramic is used. A plan built from your smile line usually lands at eight to ten units per arch rather than the twenty in most packages. How many teeth does a Hollywood smile involve?
It should be however many show when you smile and actually need treating — commonly eight to ten per arch, but that is an observation, not a rule. If a clinic quotes a unit count before seeing your smile line, they are quoting a package rather than planning treatment.
How long do I have to stay in Turkey for a smile makeover?
Six to eight days in one trip. Design and mock-up early in the week, preparation and temporaries next, a few days for the laboratory to build a full arch, then try-in and bonding at the end. A full arch turned round in three days has skipped a stage that shows up later in the fit.
Veneers or crowns?
Veneers where the tooth is sound, crowns where it is already heavily restored or root-treated. Getting this in writing, per tooth, is the single most useful thing you can do before booking anything.
Can I see what it will look like first?
Yes — ask for a digital design or a physical mock-up before preparation. Approving the shape and shade in advance is normal practice and costs you nothing but a conversation.
Why do some Turkey smiles look so obviously artificial?
Almost always two decisions rather than bad workmanship: a shade brighter than anything that occurs naturally, and every tooth made the same length and shape. Real teeth vary — the two front teeth are longer, the edges are not a flat line, and there is translucency at the tips. Bring photographs of results you like and results you do not, and be specific about wanting variation. Any laboratory can build it; they build what they are asked for.
Do I have to have my lower teeth done as well?
Only if they show, or if they need treatment on their own merits. Many people are treated on the upper arch alone and have the lower teeth whitened to match. What you cannot do is choose a very bright upper shade and leave the lower teeth untreated — the mismatch is exactly what makes a smile read as artificial.
